Hi! My name is Zara and my husband is Mike. I had a hysterectomy in 1994 (I was 23 years old) due to ovarian cancer, therefore we always knew our road to parenthood would not be "typical". Although I have always known surrogacy existed, I truly never thought to pursue this route as our means to parenthood. In March, 2002, a friend of mine suggested surrogacy after someone she knew was a surrogate and the experience was successful for everyone involved. When I heard this story and began researching, I soon realized that this was the route we should go. About 6 weeks after beginning the journey we found our wonderful GS, Alicia, and my friend, Julieta, offered to be our ED. This journal documents the details of our journey.....and beyond!

Our Kindergartners - and 6 year anniversary
Today is the anniversary of our transfer - 6 years ago. I thought this would be an appropriate time to post, and to give thanks again to the remarkable women who changed my life forever.

Bella and Noah started Kindergarten this year - and they are loving it! They have so many new friends, they are learning so much, and while it's bittersweet in a sense that they are at this stage, it has been a wonderful transition. Noah is playing ice hockey and he's awesome at it! He's a natural! Bella has started ballet and tap lessons and she is having so much fun - she's way too adorable in her leotard and tutu. :) We have so much fun watching them in their activities and grow into their talents. I have to add, these two may possibly be the most hilarious human beings on the planet. They are an absolute riot with their personalties! They keep us laughing away.

The agency is going extremely well, and there is no doubt that it is going to continue to grow and grow. We are insanely busy, but not complaining, because we know few people can say they are truly doing what they consider their calling in life. Clearly, third party reproduction is the way of the future. What is truly ironic, is way back when, I was someone who would cry at the news that someone was pregnant (just being honest) and now, when I hear of a pregnancy, no matter what, who, or how, I am genuinely happy for the person. But when it's through our agency, and we hear, "pregnant!" we celebrate as if it were our own pregnancy. It is music to our ears! We have met so many wonderful people out there... IP's, GS's and ED's, so many people with so many stories...different histories, and different things that have brought them to where they are now. We just feel fortunate to be able to help people create their families, and to help Surrogates and Egg donors with the dream and the passion to help make that happen.

Six years ago today, at this time, Alicia was laying on our couch on bedrest (okay probably in bed by now, LOL) and we had all of the hope in the world in our hearts. I remember stopping at Burger King on the way to the transfer, I remember holding hands as we watched the embryos going into Alicia's uterus. It seems like it was so long ago in some ways, but in so many other ways, like it was just yesterday.

Thank you to my partners to Mommyhood - Alicia and Julieta. I love you so much, and I am forever grateful to you for the miracle of my daughter and son.

As I've said before and I'll say again -- to those of you helping people create or add to their families -- there is nothing more important (IMO) in the world you could be doing. Thank you for that!! To other IP's or prospective IP's, hang in there, hold on, and don't give up.

Hugs!
